Flood 2008

Just wanted to put into writing my thoughts of the great flood of 2008.  Not that there is any chance of Quincy being ravished by the flood waters, but to see what has happened to Burlington, IA; Keokuk, IA; La Grange, MO; Canton, MO; Alexandria, IL; Gregory's Landing, MO; Meyer, IL; Palmyra, MO; and the North Bottoms in Adams County.  Not to mention all the others not mentioned.  It is just heart-breaking to see people displaced from their homes.  But along with the heart-break, there is also a sense of good old Midwestern stubbornness and camaraderie as people from all walks of life, both young and old, have gathered together to help their neighbors and friends and even complete strangers with sandbagging efforts to try to hold back the river.  Hoping all the rest of the levees hold and no one else will have to experience such devastation.  But the Mississippi River has a mind of her own and will go where she wants to, despite efforts to
the contrary.  I am proud to be a Midwesterner, an Illinoisan, and see how everyone has banded together in this heroic effort.  Everyone is to be commended as heroes and give themselves a pat on the back for doing all that they can and could.

My prayers and good wishes go out to everyone who is still in the path of the mighty Mississippi.
