10th Anniversary of The Sentinel!

Today is the tenth anniversary of when The Sentinel came on television. For me, I didn't come across the show until it was in reruns on the SciFi channel. The first episode I saw was Dead Drop and from there I was hooked. Since then, I've watched the episodes over and over again (thank goodness for videos). To me, the show embodied the concept of friendship. When you look at Jim and Blair, you don't expect them to have anything in common and you surely don't expect them to become friends. But because of Jim's heightened senses and Blair's ability to help Jim cope with his heightened senses, a bond is formed between the two men.

In honor of the tenth anniversary of the show, I've written a short story which for me shows the friendship between Jim and Blair.

Title: A Little Comfort

Summary: Blair offers Jim a little comfort

A Little Comfort

Jim woke up, keenly aware of the pain in his side. He let out a moan, trying to keep it as soft as possible. But a few minutes later, Blair was upstairs and sitting on the edge of Jim's bed, rubbing small circles on Jim's back.

"You doing okay, Jim?"

"Just some pain in my side."

"How high is the pain dial?"

Jim lay in the bed for several minutes without answering Blair. He was relaxing with the gentle movements from his guide.

Blair stopped the rubbing. "Jim?"

Jim looked over at Blair. "It's better now."

"Where was the dial?"

Jim knew he couldn't ignore Blair's question. "Six when I woke up. But the moment you came up here, it immediately got better." Jim smiled at Blair.

Blair smiled back at Jim. "Glad I could help."

Jim looked away from Blair. The next sentence from Jim was softly spoken. "Can you stay?"

Blair reached out, pulling Jim into a hug, careful of the injury. "Sure Jim, I can stay."

Blair made himself comfortable in Jim's bed. Jim lay back down in the bed.

Within minutes, Jim was asleep. Blair was able to relax also, keeping his hand on Jim's arm.

10th anniversary
Can't believe it has been 10 years! I have been there from the beginning. Loved your short fic, looking for more! I have heard abit about the release of the dvd but haven't seen it in stores yet! I will keep searching. You are right, it is hard to belive these two would develop such a friendship but taking in account the bonds sentinels and guides have had according to Blair LOL perhaps not so hard at that! Wish the show was still on the air, am disappointing Garett is not doing more tv but am very excited that Richard is on Desperate Housewives and has been in a few flics. Take care, keep up the great work! Brothers/sisters in arms! Cherril.

Re: 10th anniversary
Thanks for the comments! The DVDs for the first season are being released April 18th! I've got mine on pre-order already and I'm looking forward to getting them.

I think you're right -- it wouldn't be too hard to imagine they would develop such a friendship based on the Sentinel/Guide bond.
