Opening Day

And the Cubbies won 3-1. Anthony Rizzo was the hitting star, hitting a 2-run home run. And Jeff Samardzija pitched 8 innings for the win.

Carlos Marmol gave Cub fans a scare in the ninth, when he failed to get the save in a timely fashion. Dale Sveum used James Russell and (hopefully) the eventual closer for the Cubs, Kyuji Fujikawa, to nail down the win.

Cubs sign Edwin Jackson

He's a journeyman pitcher, but hopefully can help the Cubs.

RHP Jackson hopes to bring winning touch to Cubs

January 2, 2013

Well, I'm back to work after having six days off after Christmas and until yesterday, New Year's Day. I'm hoping that I can maybe keep this journal up a little more consistantly than I did last year. At least that is my hope. This is a start.

On a sad note

Yesterday was Kerry Wood's last appearance as a Cub. He's retiring, but able to do it on his own terms and in his own way. The last guy he faced, he struck out, which was special. But it's going to be hard seeing Kerry gone, but I'm glad he was able to do his way. Best of luck in the future, Kerry!

Just like a bad penny...

Koyie Hill is back with the Chicago Cubs as catcher.

Cubs reacquire Koyie Hill from Reds

Koyie Batting as a Cub

Koyie hitting a home run?

Koyie catching

I can't help but think that the Cubs could have done better in the catching department rather than going with a guy who can't hit and whose catching skills aren't the greatest.

After all, there are two former catchers on the Cubs broadcast team -- Bob Brenly and Keith Moreland. Both are 58, but I'm sure together, they could catch a game (or two, or seven)

Here's Bob when he caught (a few years ago)

Another picture of Bob as a catcher

And Bob as he looked as a hitter

Keith Moreland as the feared hitter he was

It says on the card he was a catcher!

Found this funny...

Yeah, I knew Jamie could do it!!!

Moyer becomes oldest pitcher to win game in majors

I knew he could do it! Way to go, Jamie! He went 7 strong innings!

Jamie Moyer in the first inning

Jamie Moyer in the sixth inning

Not a good start for Jamie...

49-year-old Moyer loses Rockies debut

Better luck next time, Jamie! At least the Rockies aren't giving up on him!

Washington 2, Chi Cubs 1

Strasburg dominates as Nationals beat Cubs 2-1

The damn bullpen for the Cubs blew the lead and gave up the game winning run.
